philsov 01/28/21 1:32:20 PM #10: | en passant is ONLY for pawns who have just moved for two spaces immediately out of their starting position. When chess rules started getting formalized, camp A said "pawns move one space forward only" and camp B said "pawns can move two spaces the first time they move". The compromise was the ability for a pawn from the enemy side to still capture a pawn that would've been an available kill if it only moved once. From french it means "in passing". No, en passant does not apply to any pawn, especially on pawns 3 spaces from starting position. Red pawn is not subject to en passant because the three criteria are not met. 1) Enemy pawn in C row 2) Your pawn in B row moving onto D row 3) C must act immediately to capitalize on en passant. Waiting a turn to do something with a knight or queen or whatever removes the window of en passant --- Remember that I won't rest, 'til we share the same tense Just know, to me, you're better late than never again. ...
