I had the Wii U version and first expansion pass and put in 400 hours, and still got DE.

If you haven't even played it and only bought the game, then definitely get DE.
It has WAAAAAAAY more content than the vanilla Wii U game.
And the ability to buy item cards alone is worth it. Saves dozens of hours of annoying grinding all on its own. In the Wii U version, you'd have to keep replaying old battles just to get more item cards.
Oh, and the damage requirements for A rank are INSANE in the Wii U version, it's like... 4 hearts? In the DE, they're at worst 99% full health (ie, if you have 20 hearts, you can take 19 3/4 hearts damage and still A rank), and can be as high as 149% or 199% full hearts. It's so much easier, lol
