I wouldn't call it "guilt" because I didn't have shit to do with it but I do have an acute awareness of the fact that being white passing biracial has afforded me a lot of privileges specifically because of how white supremacy and slavery is woven into the fabric of this country. I get special treatment because everyone from the colonial settlers to the Founding Fathers to multiple presidents and several other prominent figures in this country's short, brutal history pursued, upheld, enabled, and/or ignored systemic discrimination that has committed countless atrocities against everyone else so a group of people I am part of could have the status we enjoy today. I don't feel guilty for things I'm not responsible for but I do feel responsible to work toward righting their wrongs moving forward, and I'd feel like a real piece of shit if I didn't.
