The stuff about her mother dying and connecting with Wanda due to shared grief is too important for the character here for it to turn out shes not really Marias daughter. Monica being weird about Captain Marvel probably relates to her mothers death too. We know Carol was in space at the time of the snap, and Maria was in the hospital then, so Monica may just be upset that Carol was absent during Marias illness.
