There's a reason why most of the movies with actual interesting villains are making the top half and this lot aren't! Well, there's a lot, but that's one of them. I think it especially detracts from the earlier movies because without a strong villain to develop the (currently barely characterised) protagonist, you're left with a conflict that there's no reason to care about and a less interesting or nonexistent change in the character because of them.
