Its a struggle between personal desire and what the world needs. I think the universe feeling like it isnt his own is the point. The audience feels it along with him. Sure, but his story that we're shown doesn't ever fall into that point. Fights Avengers->Wants to be Avenger for 95% of a movie before deciding to stay small->Save a Wizard and then go to Space->5 years of poof->Stop Avengers level threat --- "First thing that crosses my mind: I didn't get any GameFAQs Karma yesterday."
