It's nice not to deal with others and have total control of what you want to do with your house. Keeps your bills low, too. Illinois is not bad, but it depends on where you are. I'm in the St. Louis area of it and there is not much to do outside of bars, shopping, and food. I'm in Chicago, best city I've lived in. Love the cultural amenities, relative affordability, and the public transit.
