In 2020 COVID completely killed Bernies momentum and without being able to do stuff like throw rallies, he couldnt get any momentum back. And Bernie was considered unlikely to win before all that. Also 1/2 the field giving up and endorsing Biden had to have done plenty too.

you could maybe argue 2016, since Clinton ran a very weak campaign, and Sanders had the same we need real change outlook trump was pushing, but even then Id say its still a stretch. Being a democrat also meant Bernie wouldnt have the cult-like support Trump did and so probably wouldnt be nearly as successful.
