Skyward Sword is fairly linear even for a Zelda game of that era. It's more obstacle courses than mazes. The worst thing about it is that it has Fi, who is 3 times as annoying as people pretend Navi was. She interrupts all the time, tells you how to do puzzles before you even have a chance to try, and in the single instance in the entire game where you can do a single room in a single dungeon out of order, she tells you to turn around before you enter it, tells you to leave again after you've gone in, tells you to stop and leave once more halfway through the puzzle, then tells you to get back on track once you're done. I do not exaggerate.

So that's annoying, but the game was stull a lot of fun imo. 99.999% of people that dislike it hate it for having motion controls out of principle. The actual quality of said controls had zero barring on their opinion of the game. From the moment the first trailer showed that it was built around motion controls, they wrote the game off and decided it was terrible, because in their minds motion controls are inherently bad and should never be used.

There are a few areas where the game uses motion controls when it shouldn't, but for the most part they're fine.
