Topic	I need an outsider's perspective and possible advice for my wife and I.

You've got the Shenandoah National Park not too far away. Ocean City and the beaches aren't too far. NYC and Philly are possible day trips. Weather is decent. I live in the DC area, and there are plenty of reasons to not love it.
