Throughout most of human history, people got married and had babies. It's not all that new >_> It hadn't really changed until recent history when couples started to go childless more often and you had marriages that obviously weren't going to be able to result in kids (although adoption, surrogacy, etc, is still on the table)

Quite a few of my friends got married at 19-23 and had kids then, and it made sense for that group. Now at 29-34 people are getting married and having kids that I didnt necessarily know wanted them, but also I guess that should be the default assumption.

You have the early rush and then you have people who wait until they're done with school and a bit into their careers. You're a lot less likely to see people having kids at 35-40 (although the birth rate is trending older)

I hate when people talk about "when you have kids" as if staying childless isn't a possibility.

A lot of people have kids, even the ones who think they aren't going to do it.
