Buddhism 101

Suffering is caused by an inability to let go, a clinging/attachment or desire.

We often feel emotions: rage, sadness, fear, anxiety, etc...these are states of "suffering". Anything not pleasant or neutral is a state of suffering. Suffering is as much the death of a loved one as it is the folding of your arms or the rolling of your eyes or the sucking of your teeth.

Emotions are temporary, like guests in your home. Treat them as such. There is no need to ATTACH to these emotions. Should we acknowledge them and accept them? ABSOLUTELY. The Buddha says you suffer because you cling to temporary states of being and label yourself in their name. This is not natural or beneficial because all things are impermanent (subject to change and ultimately end).

You may feel a certain way but that doesn't mean you ARE that thing. Make sense?

If that doesn't help....let me know.
