The plot resolution to the OG Star Ocean was kinda silly though; It opens very strongly with a mystery and time travel... ... but then a lot of non-sequitor happens and at the veeeeery end they like "oh right, we were supposed to kill some pirates or something" --- "Salt cures Everything!"
