So what TPM didn't show you was the weeks it would have likely taken them to fly from one system to another in sublight. It's not like Naboo and Tatooine are in the same system.

EDIT: My mistake. Hyperdrive worked just well enough to get them as far as Tatooine. It's in the novelization.

"In the novel" is not a justification for anything ever.

"In the novel" means "the author of an inconsequential novel put more thought into the story than the actual scriptwriter for the biggest franchise on the planet."

Not saying you're excusing anything, but Star Wars nerds do this all the time, especially with the PT. It's taken several novels and an animated TV series to give the nerds enough "proof" that the PT wasn't juvenile and horribly flawed.
