Any adult can look at this objectively and think "he should have just told his parents the truth", but many people that age don't have the perspective or maturity to deal with such a seemingly serious issue. Not necessarily heavily restricted, but parents should at least be involved enough to be able to talk with him about such matters. He's not going to develop the perspective or maturity on his own, but he can be given that perspective if his parents are honest about what he can expect online and put serious effort into making sure he feels comfortable talking to them about such problems. --- This is my signature.
