Personally, I've found that, while I can come across as very nitpicky (especially on PotD), my eye for stupid minor details is usually tied to how much I'm enjoying the movie/show/game/book/etc. If something is engaging and interesting, I tend to not notice the flaws at all, or if I do, I just sort of handwave them away and don't consider them overly important.

If I'm noticing and getting hung up on a lot of stupid details, it tends to mean that the piece of media in question has completely failed to engage me, for whatever reason. They're telling a bad story I don't connect with in any way, so to amuse myself, my brain starts looking for other things to be interested in.

It doesn't make sense for a person in the future to not trust those when they were well established before he was even born. It would be like someone nowadays not trusting automobiles or something like that.

Yeah, that would be like people today not trusting vaccines.

Oh wait.
