I never knew anyone that disliked it after we all saw it in theaters. It was disliked when it was in theaters, too. And keep in mind that if you were a kid at the time, you would have already seen Captain Lou Albano play Mario ParanoidObsessive posted... It didn't help that we'd already seen stuff like this that STILL seemed more accurate: Well, at least they made an effort. The SMB movie was the start of a decade of really weird video game cash-ins, with mixed results.
