I'm trying to find the book where I first learned about him and learned more about TS in general, it was a YA book from the 90's (even though based on a real event of course, I believe fictional) where the protagonist is a young boy whose father is a journalist covering the events, but I can't find the name of the book so far despite my best Google sleuthing. I thought maybe it was Avi but I guess not.

Anyway, Tank Man was one of the most heroic figures I've ever seen and until this new age where everything is photographed was like, literally, perhaps the most heroic figure photographed in all of history, up until recent history where it's harder to say because now there are so many documented images to choose from. He disappeared after standing down a COLUMN OF (Communist) TANKS that could have gunned him down or more easily outright ran him over, and giving them a lecture on basic human decency.

As it stands he was never heard from again. Literally noone but the innermost of the CCP, if them even, know what became of his ultimate fate.

Nowadays you are considered heroic for so much less, but f' that, he's the reason I won't dilute the word for heroes.
