Yeah, and that's what made Walt kind of delusional at that moment. He himself knew that he was going to die from cancer soon, as did Gus, and there was no reason not to assume that Gus wouldn't just wait for Walter's cancer to kill him before replacing him with Gale. At least none that I can recall off hand.
