So it turns out the new addition is the intersex flag. And honestly, I think we should be giving more attention to intersex people within the community.

A common practice in regards to intersex people is that they get surgery to reform or remove a part of their genitals as soon as possible, in the hopes that they'll be able to live a "normal" life as whatever their dominant sexual characteristics have been determined as theiir "dominant" sex. Anywhere from 8.5% to 20% of intersex people tend to subsequently suffer from gender dysphoria - I don't know much about intersex stuff yet, but I'd hazard a guess in saying that it's due to the other set of sexual characteristics that was surgically removed from them being the "dominant" set after all, or because the gender identity of an intersex person is informed by both sets of sexual characteristics and they can tangibly feel the loss of what should be there.

I'm a newbie when it comes to intersex issues and stuff, but frankly I'm glad there's more of an effort to include them. Say what you will about an overcrowded pride flag, but you almost never hear about intersex people or the issues they face and I think now's the time to really focus on what they go through and validate their identity and their struggles.
