If they went up to every tom dick and harry with a gun and asked them for a LTC(liscense to carry) then it would be virtually the same thing as running everyone's name they see with a gun. Really this affects conceal carry more than anything. Most people who carry pistols don't open carry them. In fact it is largely looked down on in the 2A community (but we still want people to have the right to do so, we just think it is stupid). Now will this inspire more criminals to carry? Maybe, but from a logical standpoint, probably not, and the little data we have doesn't support that notion. The only logical reason to be against this is the fact that you no longer have to take a safety course to get a carry license. I go back and forth on this tbh, because while I all for doing away with the government taxing you for exercising your constitutional right, I know a lot of people are stupid as fuck when it comes to gun safety. Im not sure how to compromise because I dont mind safety courses, but if you required safety courses but no license then how would they know you took it, and if they offered free carry licenses that would make taxpayers pay for them.
