Thankfully he saw the abject terror on me and my wife's faces (and we were the last two people in the row) and he took pity on us (which leads me to believe he isn't a total monster). I think heckling/roasting front row fans might be an industry standard, but that's really just based on what I've heard (or seen in tv/film) so I'm not saying it with absolute confidence.
