Unlike cancer and heart disease, Covid isn't a broad category of diseases that are an unavailable consequence of humanity up until the moment we discovery immortality. Heart disease also kills more per Americans per year than WW2. I guess WW2 wasn't a big deal then? Both WW2 and Covid were/are acute threats that require an organized and dramatic response. Also, we actually do respond to acute causes of heart disease and cancer.
