Now it's no different than any other capitalist system. People at the top get rich, everyone else ekes out a meager existence generating the wealth that the people at the top pocket. It's actually not much different than how things work in the US. Only in China they cut out the middle man, money goes straight to the party officials. In the US it goes to the corporate executives and shareholders who then use it to donate to politicians that will cut regulations and taxes for them. Did the Kuomintang government need to go? Absolutely. Same as every regime that has suffered a massive communist or socialist uprising.
