Still unsolved/open cases
I feel like this is avoiding the question though, because it still involves a type of crime that had to have occurred. It would be like asking someone what their favorite type of food is, and offering fruits, vegetables, pastas, etc, as choices, and they answer by saying "warm food".

Agreed. The Night Stalker Netflix doc was a letdown because they try to avoid "glorifying" Ramirez, but the truth is the guy had such a bizarre upbringing, and was such a strange person in general that it could have been a great way to learn about people like him. Instead they focused on the detective angle, which was less interesting.
Have you seen Don't Fuck with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer? It's one of my favorites, because it focuses heavy on the killer. It actually got mixed reviews because the negative ones didn't like how much it talked about the killer. It's such a fascinating story.
