I thought the discussion in the video, I didn't watch it, was like how the topic is titled, saying slavery in America didn't start out about race. That is probably true. Like the very first slaves shipped here in 1619 they probably weren't thinking "oh yeah let's enslave those dark skins they deserve it" so much as it was "free labor." It just obviously became less about the "hey free labor!" aspect and eventually became all about race at some point down the road, with most of the near 250 years of slavery being race based.
