A couple of side notes here
- The piranha plant from Super Mario Bros. was not inspired by Little Shop of Horrors. (Unless it borrowed from the original. I never saw that version.) Super Mario Bros. was 1985 and Little Shop of Horrors was 1986. The timeline doesn't match up. The singing piranha plants from the Japanese commercial for Super Mario RPG were definitely inspired by it though.
- I'd completely forgotten bout the classic monster movies like Dracula and Frankenstein. Frankenstein (1931) might have an even greater influence on gaming than the Alien franchise.
Variations of the Universal version of the Frankenstein monster are among the most common stock enemies in gaming.
