Most romantic relationships require effort. Each person needs to work towards maintaining the relationship. Organizing dates, keeping things new and interesting, lots of frequent contact, etc. You'll still hear this from couples that have been together for decades.

I don't see that as authentic. My friends aren't a conditional relationship, there aren't set parameters or expectations to meet for them to continue being your friend.

I recognize that my opinion is unpopular and particularly strikes a nerve with people that are married or are in long term relationships. But I can't commit to a relationship that is dependent on what I contribute. I have times where I need space, and this isn't particularly compatible with conditional relationships. Basically, I don't want a relationship that is conditional to what I (or she) puts into it.
so you don't feel that maintaining a relationship should require any effort at all?
