If I ever try to monetize my hobby again, it'll probably be through selling comic-style stories instead of going back to commission work. Got a ton of story outlines, just need to actually sit down and write + draw them. Now that would be super interesting to see. I've tried to do comics/webcomics in the past but I was just never good at it. You seem like you have a pretty good idea on the characters you want to make stories around based on your original characters from your DA.
