I think a lot of people were just upset it didn't play like they expected I remember being really disappointed watching Game Grumps play it back then. He spent the first like 15 minutes complaining that it was just a cheap ripoff of Smash Bros, then proceeded to lose horribly because he didn't do the tutorial and instead just tried playing it like Smash.
