Confused what you're saying here - are you implying it wasn't a good game because they had a new team make it, and Santa Monica or Insomniac would've made a good game? I thought you were a fan of the original.
I love the original but I also recognize areas it could've been improved. A bigger/more experienced team would've allowed for a few things
  1. Most importantly imo it likely would've given more respect for the game. It's harder to write off a game as a cheap clone when it's coming from an established company. It also would've shown Sony had more faith in the game.
  2. A more established studio likely would've had more luck making deals with other third party companies, and would've had an easier time promoting the game. Prior to the game's release it got very little first party press, with most of the news about it coming from YouTubers and the like (many of whom hated on it from the get-go).
  3. A bigger team honestly would've made for a better game. I loved the game at its core but it was flawed. There were unquestionably balance issues, the menu UI was pretty lackluster even by 2012 standards, and the arcade mode fell a little flat (the appearance of Polygon Man as the final boss was huge, and the little rivalries were neat, but it was largely just a sequence of basic fights). A bigger team also would've likely resulted in just more. More characters, stages, music tracks, etc. Even after the 4 DLC characters and 3-4 DLC stages, they had several more planned and being worked on, but the studio ended up getting shut down before they could put them out. There were clearly people working on the game that cared a lot about it (the deep cuts you can see in things like the alternate costumes and side characters prove that), but Sony ultimately just didn't give enough support to the game or the studio making it, and despite their best efforts it couldn't make as much of an impact as it should've
