Unfortunately, it's simply not possible to meet the US' demand for meat without resorting to such practices, so enforcing improvements in animal welfare is going to require people to eat less meat. In truth, that's generally a good thing, both nutritionally and ethically. lihlih posted... I never understood ethical treatment of animals that are going to be eaten anyway. What's the point of treating animals nicely if their whole purpose in life is just to feed us?
