There's been an extensive research on artificial ones like sucralose, Acesulfame potassium and aspartame. From increasing your appetite, to making you more likely to get diabetes, higher blood pressure, and affect the microbes in your gut to increase cancee risk and bowel movements.

Natural ones like Ethyritol, Stevia and monk fruit haven't been studied as much, but too much of it i'm sure has negative side effects. I eat a lot of protein bars (1-2 a day) and other low carb stuff including ice cream, and i notice it affects my stool.
