The rules are you only have to follow one piece of "advice" in your life and if you pick the wrong one it doesn't matter. They had to either pull themselves up by their bootstraps OR have a years worth of money put aside and they chose this. It's basic laws of humanity and i'm pretty sure it's in the Constitution.
