It instantly destroys every superman story it touches. I think the people overplay the abundance of Kryptonite in Superman stories. There are only three villains where Kryptonite regularly comes into play: Lex Luthor, Metallo, and Kryptonite Man. With Luthor it is mostly there for self-defense, so even he is rarely just adding Kryptonite to things.
