They had every chance to save themselves, and not only did they refuse to do that, they decided to endanger as many people around them as possible by scaremongering about the vaccine and downplaying the virus. If these doorknob-licking morons want to run around yelling about how the virus isn't a big deal and that the vaccine will put ghosts in their blood, I'm not going to mourn their stupid ass when the virus kills them.
If you want to downplay a pandemic-level virus, pump yourself full of horse drugs and then harass hospital staff for not releasing you to a fucking quack who will fill you full of poison and tell you it's a cure, then why should I waste my pity on you? They could have worn a mask. They could have gotten vaccinated. Instead, they convinced themselves that the government was lying about how bad it is to infringe on everyone's civil liberties and began taking a series of snake oils and animal medication, because those were the "secret" cures the government didn't want people to know about because it would "discredit their narrative".
And that killed them - while the people who did socially distance, who did wear masks and got vaccinated, by and large survived. Except for the unlucky ones who got infected by these fucking plague rats and died before they could get vaccinated. Or, despite their own belief in the seriousness of the virus, the ones who didn't safeguard themselves well enough until it was too late - which wasn't helped along by the anti-maskers spreading the virus exponentially further than it might have reached otherwise.
When a person drinks themselves to death, I pity them - the grip that alcohol had on them led them into a deadly spiral that led to a prolonged period of self-destruction and eventual death. When a person commits suicide, I pity them - the life they lived and the circumstances that governed it were both so unpleasant that they took the ultimate measure to escape from it. Nobody should die like that.
And when a person dies of COVID, I pity them. Their death was due to circumstances out of their control, and it's a horrible, agonizing death that no-one deserves to go through.
Do you know what separates a regular COVID victim from an antivaxxer idiot?
A regular COVID victim took whatever measures they could, because they didn't want to die. And they died anyway because their measures weren't enough.
Antivaxxers are one of the reasons other people fucking die from this virus, because they don't protect themselves and they act as carriers to spread it to others. Whether wittingly or unwittingly, their selfish actions cause the further proliferation of the virus, and it leads to innocent people dying in fucking agony.
Their deaths are preventable, and they have multiple opportunities to protect themselves and the people around them. Not only do they not do that, they say that those other measures don't work and try to convince other people that the virus isn't so bad. They say that the means to protect themselves don't work, and that they do a whole bevy of other harms and ailments because the government is trying to kill you and take your freedom with a fake virus.
They go the complete opposite direction, seemingly out of spite along ideological lines. And they fucking die for it.
So why mourn a fucking idiot who refused to save their own lives or protect the people around them? They threw their lives away in the face of evidence that would have either saved them or reduced the risk of catching the virus that killed them. Why should I waste my pity on a person who wasted their life in the face of multiple preventative measures that could have saved their fucking life?
