Misgender, verb: refer to (someone, especially a transgender person) using a word, especially a pronoun or form of address, that does not correctly reflect the gender with which they identify.

while it does say "especially a transgendered person", it does not say "specifically a transgendered person" meaning that yes, rev is wrong, but no, he wont acknowledge it.
