While its definitely an MMO, I think it plays a lot more like a single player game than other MMOs for the main story. You do need to group with other people for dungeons/raids, but the ones required for the story are designed so that almost any group can get through them without too much trouble (and you dont need to actually assemble the group yourself for story-level content; you just enter a queue and the game takes care of assembling the group).
