Let me write out the defining background traits of the Peter Parker character. Orphan who lives with his aunt and uncle, who are not rich. Smart enough to go to higher education on scholarships. His New York home probably fits in there, but I do not know enough about New York to put that into words, it is probably a neighbourhood that fits with his aunt and uncle's financial status. None of that actually requires a specific ethnicity I would think. Characters like Steve Rogers and Bruce Wayne have defining core traits that require them to be of some white descent.
