wash them youself, using energy and taking up a chunk of your time, the dishes end up washed.
or
you can take two minutes to load the dishwasher and turn it on, and then go and do literally whatever you want and, the dishes end up washed.

let me ask you: when you do laundry, do you just wait next to the machines the entire time, or do you load and turn it on and walk away to do other things? a dishwasher is just a washing machine, but for dishes and not clothes.
