It was part of the 3.5 trillion house package. Biden is in the process of cutting it down because that will never pass the Senate and he wants the Senate's bipartisan 1 trillion dollar infrastructure package to pass the house so that he can claim a victory in getting both parties to work together on legislation. So what's happening in reality is that rather than passing three to four and a half trillion dollars in spending the house bill will probably get cut down to something like 2 trillion and then both bills will pass. So the country is still going to get something like 2-3 trillion in social spending, it's just not going to get the insane amount that was originally proposed. But since everyone on ce defaults to absolute despair, going to keep seeing users act like the end result is Biden doing literally nothing and Republicans getting everything they want somehow.

Why should free community college be a federal issue anyway?

As someone pointed out, it is already free in Tennessee. Also Connecticut:

Dropping something like this isnt quite the slide into a conservative hellscape CE is treating it as. Compromise and negotiation sometimes means giving something up.
