I wasn't aware at the time they'd eat solid food until one of the tabbies climbed 3 stairs and was eating dry food that was for the others. So I got some wet/softer food and all of them came to eat. The mother didn't seem to mind me delicately petting them or crouched next to them. One even came and investigated me.
