I don't see any other way this could work. I think the reason they don't remake it is because Indiana Jones is tied up in Judea-Christian religion. You can't remake Indiana Jones and say that God isn't real. You can't remake Indiana Jones and say that God is real. You can't remake Indiana Jones and conveniently have him go after a secular object. The only choice left is to make a sequel.
