It's why someone who doesn't care can work the job for a while but then they leave. It's why so many of us workers are miserable, not because of life choices, but because of consumer choices. People are becoming more and more reliant on the thinking of others, especially opinions. To have to be working, while thinking for people who treat like you an object, all while having to act like you enjoy it, is some mental gymnastics.
