When my grandfather died I had him buried in the closest open National Cemetery, which was in Riverside. It was about a 90 minute drive to get there, so I could only go a couple times a year when I lived in San Diego. Now I live halfway across the country and I can't go there anymore.

When my husband passed away I chose to have him cremated. Now if I ever have to move I can take him with me. His urn sits on the table next to my bed, along with the urns containing one of my horses and my dog.

I figure when I go, I'd like to be cremated, my ashes mixed with his, and half scattered at sea (his favorite place on earth), and half scattered in the mountains (my favorite place).
