Effect is a noun

Affect is a verb

Actually, both have both noun and verb definitions, though they're used less often.

Effect (Noun): The consequence of doing something (the effect of dropping a brick on your toe)

Effect (Verb): To facilitate or carry out (pass me a brick to effect dropping it on your toe)

Affect (Verb): To have an impact (dropping a brick on your toe would affect your ability to walk)

Affect (Noun): Observable emotional state (dropping a brick on your toe resulted in a negative affect)

The noun form of "Affect" is almost exclusively used in medical/psychological contexts, so it's by far the most obscure in most people's experiences.
