Huh. I stand corrected. I'm a bit baffled that I hadn't heard this before, since I work pretty closely with people in health care.

For the record, most auto immune diseases are triggered by environmental factors.

Basically genetics loads the gun but environmental factors pull the trigger. If not for those environmental factors, the person might not have developed said disease despite being genetically predisposed to it.
