I have some fairly cheap ones and just that effect alone is enough to make things more relaxing. even if the cheap ones don't make things completely silent, it softens everything and is just instantly relief if you're looking for peace. more expensive ones are better still and block a ton of sound. (testing some expensive ones is what convinced me to buy some cheap ones. the cheap ones still let a lot of sound through but it's all softened. the expensive ones only seemed to let the loudest and lowest-frequency sounds through, like if you bang your hand on the table you can hear it faintly.) --- ...
