Ace Attorney's Standards for Guilt and Innocence - On the surface, of course this is ridiculous, but at the same time, the conceit is necessary for the game to work. The system has to be rigged against the defense for maximum drama. That's why I was legitimately stunned when 5-4 ended in a Not Guilty without catching the culprit in the process...until the big twist at the very end. One of the few moments in the entire series to elicit a verbal WHAAAAAAAAAAT from me.
Yeah, I think I basically agree. It's logically very dumb and inconsistent, but as the games are fundamentally stories we need a mechanism to find out what really happened. It would be really unsatisfying if cases ended without us finding the real culprit, even though that being required would be ridiculous in real life.
