One thing I noticed about 1-3 on a replay that improved my view of the case is that during the third day investigation, Gumshoe flat out tells Phoenix that the case has broken down to the point that there are people who don't believe in the case against Powers anymore, but don't know where else to turn. This is an easily overlooked mark of self-awareness by the case that it knows how innocent he looks - It's an intentional part of the case. It's a moment that, like many other moments in the series, shows how inherently flawed the law can be. The law itself has no idea what it should be doing heading into day 3, and Edgeworth himself has his first moment of "Truth" in the series when he quickly realizes it's Vasquez and makes a snap decision to help Phoenix take her down.

On a replay, 1-3 took a fairly significant jump up for me. It's a case that's very deliberate in what it does, and Powers looking almost-guaranteed innocent at the end of day 2 is absolutely intentional as both a plot device and a character device for Edgeworth.

I remember once coming up with a single argument that could theoretically work against him, but I don't remember the argument itself offhand.
